Sri Lanka commences construction of Dehiwela flyover today

Apr 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Highways and Road Development Ministry inaugurated the construction of the flyover at the Dehiwela junction today (17).

Infrastructure, Highways and Road Development Minister, T. B. Ekanayaka at a special ceremony today declared open the construction work for the Dehiwala flyover, at a cost of Rs. 870 million.

The 337 meters long and 7.35 meters wide flyover, funded by the British government is scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2009.

The British firm Mabay and Jonson Ltd and Access Engineering Ltd have been contracted to build the fly over.

The flyover being built to ease the traffic congestion will enable 40,000 vehicles to pass everyday in two lanes.
