Geofrey Bawa is considered to be the sage of Sri Lankan Architecture. His work not only spawned a new generation of Sri Lankan Architects but went on to become a new movement through out the whole of Asia.
Bawa’s style is the ultimate culmination of west meeting the east, responding to the flow of spaces, the environment and giving significance to the indigenous culture not seen in many of his contemporaries, Bawa deviated the modernist pathway into creating a more intimate piece of work which is more closer to the hearts of the inhabitants of Sri Lanka.
Starting his practice at the age of 38 he built prolifically for the next 25 years of his life, not only in Sri Lanka but in other countries such as Indonesia, India and even Singapore.
